Mickey’s Backyard BBQ

Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is a great way to spend the evening dancing away with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Chip ‘n Dale while feasting on an all-you-care-to-enjoy BBQ spread.

This dining event is seasonal, typically running March – December on select nights only. (Generally Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings)

If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, you would use two table service dining credits.

There are 2 seating categories available, the Disney Dining Plan typically only covers category 2. I don’t feel like the seating location so much matters since everyone gets up and moves around so much anyways, but there are a few other advantages for the category 1 seating guests which in includes early entry into the Backyard Pavilion, a special character greeting prior to the show, plus early access to the food and beverages.

The BBQ is held in an open aired, covered, outdoor pavilion with large picnic tables at the Settlement Depot at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Due to the large size of the resort, this event can be somewhat tricky to get to. I recommend scheduling this on an evening that you have been in Magic Kingdom for the day, because it is quite easy to hop on the ferry from Magic Kingdom to get there. In fact, if you take the ferry, you can simply walk over to the pavilion from the dock, but if you take the bus in, you will have to switch to an internal bus to get you there. Be sure to click on the resort link to see the map before you go, or see this article about navigating with Disney transportation. Disney recommends for you to arrive 30 minutes early, so depending on where you are coming from and what type of transportation you would use, your PPDD Travel Planner can inform  you of what time you should start heading that way.

Once you arrive at the pavilion –

Once we arrived, we picked up our paper confirmation ticket at the desk prior to entering. You can see here that the cost of gratuity is already added in, so if you are using the dining plan, no need to budget for the additional gratuity!

Upon entering the pavilion, we were shown where our seats were, put our things down and hopped in line for the BBQ spread!

Drinks include lemonade, fruit punch, tea, soft drinks and for those 21 years of age – unlimited beer and wine. Dessert is your choice of multiple different popsicles or ice cream bars. Of course, my kids chose the Mickey Ice Cream Bars!

Now let’s talk about the entertainment for the night, because we all know that is truly why we want to go! There is a country western band, rope tricks, line dancing, and the famous Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Chip ‘n Dale which will join you for a hootin’ good hoedown! Be sure to get in line to pose for pictures with the characters!

Not only did my kids get a chance to dance with all the characters, but they each took time to show attention to the kids as well. Look at Goofy that just stopped dancing to get some sweet hugs from my littlest:

Then, the highlight of the night was when Minnie grabbed their hands and escorted them to the dance floor!

The rope tricks were really amazing to watch, and even kept the attention of the kids too.

My family had a blast at Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. I certainly recommend it to anyone who would enjoy this type of atmosphere.

This info was very helpful! We are trying to decide between the BBQ, and Boma. Any suggestions?

Hi! Those are two very different options, so it would definitely depend on what the rest of your itinerary looks like.
